I am fascinated with light and it's ability to both reveal and conceal. Infrared film, which records light beyond the visible spectrum, emphasizes this ambiguous characteristic by obliterating visual information in reflecting light and revealing it in absorbing light; thereby representing what I feel, but do not see.
I translate the luminous quality of this film into images that act as puzzle pieces with cryptic titles as clues to incorporate the viewer as a participant in the synchronicity I feel in life. This "archaeology of the self" is often presented by narratives in pairs or in cyclical form to symbolize the inevitable return to the place we come from and the instincts of the natural world.
Chance and intuition are important elements in uncovering personal myth and are used symbolically throughout my work. These are not nostalgic or sentimental images, but the dark undertones and glaring overtones of stark visions and unreliable memories that encourage further discovery and contemplation.
